Alpha News ("Alpha News," "we," "us," or "our") provides news summaries, reading tools, and related services through our website and mobile application (together, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

• Account information, including your email address, user ID, display name, profile photo, and authentication details associated with Apple or Google sign-in.
• Preferences and activity, including followed sources, saved favorites, daily report preferences, language settings, and interactions with the Services.
• Messages and support information that you send to us directly or through our third-party support form.

Information collected automatically

We may collect device, browser, application, network, and usage information, such as IP address, approximate location derived from IP, operating system, device type, pages or screens viewed, referring URLs, and event timestamps. We may also use cookies and similar technologies to keep the Services secure, remember preferences, understand usage, and improve performance.

Information from other services

If you sign in through Apple or Google, we receive the account information that those providers make available according to your settings and their policies. We do not receive your Apple or Google password.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and provide the Services;
• save preferences, favorites, and followed sources, and measure reading activity and other interactions;
• deliver, personalize, measure, and improve news summaries and product features;
• monitor reliability, prevent abuse, detect security incidents, and troubleshoot problems;
• communicate with you about the Services and respond to support requests; and
• comply with applicable law and enforce our Terms of Use.

3. Service Providers and Sharing

We may share information with service providers that process it on our behalf and under appropriate contractual or technical safeguards. Depending on how you use the Services, these providers may include Supabase for authentication, storage, and application data; Apple and Google for sign-in; Mixpanel and Google Analytics for product measurement; Vercel for hosting, delivery, and performance measurement; Feishu for support forms; and Stripe for payment processing on the web Services. These providers are expected to protect information consistently with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect the rights and safety of users or others, investigate fraud or abuse, or support a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition. We do not sell personal information.

4. Analytics and Cookies

The web Services use analytics tools to understand usage and improve the product. Google Analytics may store an analytics identifier in a cookie and associate it with your account user ID after you sign in. Mixpanel may store an identifier in local storage and receive your user ID, email address, display name, account creation date, and interaction events. Vercel may receive performance and usage information. The mobile application does not currently use Mixpanel or Google Analytics. You can control cookies and local storage through your browser settings, although disabling them may affect functionality.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain security, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete your Supabase account and the associated data covered by our deletion process. Generated records and information held by external service providers may follow separate deletion or retention processes. Limited security logs, audit records, legal records, and backups may remain for a reasonable period where needed for security, legal compliance, or disaster recovery, after which they are deleted or de-identified according to our operational practices. You may contact us if you need help with a deletion request.

6. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. You can update available account details in the Services or request assistance by contacting us. You may also unsubscribe from non-essential communications. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

7. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, and you are responsible for keeping your account credentials and devices secure.

8. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us so we can investigate and remove it where appropriate.

9. International Use

Our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. By using the Services, you understand that information may be transferred to locations with different data protection rules. We use safeguards required by applicable law for such transfers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Services or our practices change. We will post the updated version here and revise the Effective Date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice where required by law.
